Music is my life

After many years of experimentations, Carlo has finally found his musical identity: a classical composer who uses the different sounds of the saxophone soul to express himself.

He started to play the saxophone at the age of eight, remaining immediately fascinated by the sound of the symphonic orchestra. Consequently, he began playing in the woodwind orchestra of his little village, strengthening his passion for classical music.

This experience brought him to enroll to the Conservatory of Florence “L. Cherubini”. He studied Classical Saxophone, obtaining first the bachelor’s degree and then the masters’ degree in July 2020.

During those years, he met the sound of Charlie Parker, and fell in love with jazz music. He started studying jazz simultaneously with the classical studies at the Conservatory. In 2018, he was chosen as one of the best talents of the Italian Conservatory to be a part of the “National Jazz Orchestra of the Italian Conservatories”. He played, among others, with the English Jazz Saxophonist John Surman.

But then, his artistic path changed forever, after hearing a live performance of “Daphnis and Chloé” by Ravel. The sounds of the orchestra with the choir literally dazzled him, making him understand that the classical composition was the best way to express his creativity.

Following this epiphany, he started to follow Composition’s courses at the Conservatory of Florence under the guide of Michele Ignelzi. He received a commission for a piece by Andreas Van Zoelen for solo tenor saxophone, that became “Dans un jardin japonais enneigé”.

During the pandemic years 2020-2021, he composed part of the soundtrack for the movie “Rumon”, produced by “IISS Cine-Tv Roberto Rossellini” of Rome in collaboration with the Conservatory of Florence, under the guide of Dario Marianelli. The movie was presented at the 16th edition of the “Rome Film Fest” 2021.

The 26th of April 2023 he premiered his new project “The Princess of Babylon” at the Factorium Theatre of Tilburg, as a final exam for his Master of Music in Classical Saxophone.

In May 2023 he became a qualified Music teacher for public middle school in Italy, as a result of graduating at the national level public competition .

Besides being a musician, he loves to travel and read adventures books, especially French and Russian literature from 18th and 19th century.
